With all due respect to the person who create this, the old way is to actually install the virtual French keyboard and, from the English keyboard, switch to the French virtual keyboard and then hit shift and number 2 for the e accute accent! It is a pain to do, but. "Just type the two characters to be combined eg and and then, with the cursor immediately after the second one, press the key combination you use to generate the accented character (I ended up using F7 but that’s a matter of personal choice) and the two characters will be replaced with eg.
